I have tried a few and loved them! Is there a recipie you know of that is quite spicy that I could try? :)

Thanks I am glad that you enjoy my recipes. I have been slacking recently, pretty much just eating the same things and having nothing new to post. Also my camera broke so it makes it harder to take pictures to post with the recipes.

Unfortunately my husband and I don’t like really spicy foods so I don’t tend to make them. But I mean you can always add extra ground chili powder to the dalk bokkum tang or dalk jim or even the kimchi jjigae to make them spicier.

If there is any other food that you would like to see me try then let me know and I will attempt it for you and post the results.

Hi there! I love your blog updates about your family, it's so interesting to read. I was just wondering if you could write a blog about how you and your husband find communicating - obviously being from different cultural backgrounds. I have a korean boyfriend and, although 95% of the time we are on the same page, there are some funny and interesting times when we just don't agree/understand what the other is saying.

Sorry this has taken me so long to respond to.

My husband and I are a lot like you and your boy friend, we understand each other most of the time. Although I am not sure they work out in funny or interesting times when we don’t. I think it has a lot to do with our personalities. I am a lot more patient, realistic but also more stubborn than him. He is very emotional and proud.

So if I don’t understand something that he asks of me or tells me I usually ask him again. But if I do something and it is wrong I might not admit that it is wrong.

If my husband doesn’t understand what I am asking he pretends that he does, this might result in me being upset he didn’t do something. Or worse him getting upset because I have kept asking him the same thing and he hasn’t done what I want but he is mad because I didn’t tell him the right way…. I didn’t know he didn’t understand.

But no matter what we always figure out eventually what each other needs and have even learnt our own “language” so that the other understands us.

What's something you really miss doing with ease back home in Canada? How often do you visit Canada?

Korea really has become my home and I am pretty comfortable most of the time. But the simplest thing I miss from being home in Canada or an English speaking country is just asking questions. Today I went to the doctor’s office and just wanted to know if they spoke English or not, but the nurses get all flustered and don’t know how to answer. I just have to think of another way in Korean to ask them again… So I wish that was simpler.

The other things I just miss about being in Canada.

a) my friends and family - especially now with a baby I wish that they could see all his developments or come over for a cup of coffee and chat.

b) I miss how easy it is to eat food from all over the world. Here in Korea they have Korean food, “western foods” - steak, fried things, pizza and hamburgers, and a few other types which can be few and far between. In Canada I fell in love with Somalian food, and I always love good Vietnamese, Mexican, Greek, and Breakfast. I wish it was easier to go to these restaurants or even find ingredients to make these foods at the local grocery stores.

c) the last thing I really miss is an oven. Yes I know I can get one of those counter top ones. But I have like 2 square feet of counter space as it is, I don’t want to give any of that up. And those ovens are still so little. Eventually I will just buy a stove oven combo and have it installed in my house, but I should probably stop moving every few months before I do that…

I do try to visit once a year, but I am sure that the longer I am here the bigger the time between visits will become. I was last in Canada September 2012 for a dear friend’s wedding.

Moving went so easily and even though I wasn’t at home when they unpacked (my husband was in charge) I only had to rearrange a few things. I love having the extra space, it is so bright and I can’t wait to have some plants that won’t die. The new neighbourhood is good too, lots of things to do and we can walk to more places. There are a few play grounds but none that I have found with rubber instead of sand on the ground. I will have to keep exploring.

All in all I am very happy.

never seen decals like this before

never seen decals like this before

beautiful sky but decieveingly cold day here in Suwon

beautiful sky but decieveingly cold day here in Suwon

moving again...

I have been married to my husband for 2 years and 7 months and in that time we have moved 3 times (and he has had to many jobs to count - over 10) and yet again he has changed his job and we must move to another house. Luckily this time we are moving back to Suwon, back to where we have friends, closer to where I work and hopefully will stay for awhile. I am excited to make this new place our home and even though moving is a hassle it is also kinda an adventure.

This week I went to the real estate office three times, the first with the whole family and then twice alone looking for the perfect place. Yesterday I found it, three bedrooms with built in storage (I couldn’t believe it when I saw it). Nice kitchen with room for our fridge (no more fridge room for us) and large enough living room for toys, playing and family time. We will use the largest room as our family bed room, the room with the built in closet as my husband’s closet and Jake’s toy room. That way he can change and get ready in the morning while Jake is still sleeping. And the last room as an office.

I am sure that the set up will change with time, but I am excited that this house is large enough for us to grow in. Jake needs more space to run around and play and eventually there will be another in our family… although I don’t know when. But the possibilities and the idea of the future puts a smile on my face.

So we are pricing out moving companies today, signing the lease tomorrow and then next week I will check out the day cares around the house and try to find a good one.

Can’t wait^^
